What should you look for when selecting imported beef?
Due to its price advantage, imported beef is widely favored for processing into popular beef dishes. So how should you choose imported beef?
01
Select beef permitted for import into China
If a beef product's labeled country of origin is not on China's list of approved meat import sources, it is not legally imported. For example, Japanese beef lacks China's import authorization. Wagyu beef marketed as Japanese-origin in the market is either smuggled or falsely advertised using products from other countries.
The approved list can be verified on the General Administration of Customs website: http://jckspj.customs.gov.cn/spj/zwgk75/2706880/jckrljgzyxx33/2812399/index.html
02
Check Product Labels
Legally imported beef must bear durable, clear, and easily identifiable labeling in both Chinese and English, or Chinese and the language of the exporting country (region), indicating the following:
① Country (region) of origin
② Product name
③ Manufacturer registration number
④ Production batch number
Additionally, the outer packaging must include the following information in Chinese:
⑤ Specifications
⑥ Place of origin (specified to the state/province/city level)
⑦ Destination (People's Republic of China)
⑧ Production date
⑨ Shelf life
⑩ Storage temperature
