A three-stage governance system—strict pre-import approval, rigorous inspection and quarantine during import, and stringent post-import oversight—facilitates the smooth entry of food products and ingredients into the Chinese market.
Imported food products undergo five core inspection stages:
1. Conformity Assessment: Evaluation from national systems to corporate qualifications
2. Designated Ports and Inspection Sites: High-risk foods like meat/seafood must use “dedicated channels”
3. Port On-site Inspection: Seven key inspection points require attention
4. Chinese Labeling Management: Prepackaged foods must meet labeling requirements
5. Non-Compliance Disposition: Safety-related issues result in immediate return shipments
